Sheron Mendis, Assistant Vice President Payments and Cash Management at DFCC Bank PLC, gets her adrenaline high through sports. She embraces adventures with absolute enthusiasm. Cycling hundreds of kilometres on routes she has never been before, or swimming in the middle of the Indian Ocean with no land in sight feeds her unquenchable thirst for excitement. That same adventurous spirit also applies to her palate. “I’m a big-time foodie. I never say no to a new food experience.”

An old girl of Ladies College, Sheron started her career as a Sales Executive at APL logistics where she discovered her love for the profession. She then worked at Unilever Sri Lanka before moving to HSBC, Sri Lanka. Starting off as a Premier Sales Officer, she was promoted as Payments and Cash Management (transactional banking) Sales Manager where she gained in-depth knowledge on digital transactional banking products.

Being the first employee of the Payments and Cash Management department at DFCC Bank, Sheron was privileged to work with a team of industry specialists to develop iConnect. “I was a part of the inaugural team. Developing it from scratch was an exciting and challenging creative process.”

It is with pride she states that DFCC is a place with a heart, a place that works on building relationships with their customers. “We don’t sell products, we offer legitimate customised solutions to our customers.” As a digital system, iConnect continues to evolve, embracing new technological developments. She has grand plans for its growth. Her vision is to offer all transactional banking needs under one platform. “That way, we will continue to accommodate the ever-changing needs of our customers.”

Sheron concludes by sharing her outlook on life with the Japanese philosophy ichigo ichie. Loosely translated it is about savouring experiences. “Life is short,” she says. “Enjoy every moment!”
