The true measure of leadership is no longer authority or titles. It’s impact & influence. For Lakshan Madurasinghe, CEO/Founder – Solutions Ground Pvt. Ltd, leadership has always been deeply personal, shaped by service, faith, and a belief in Sri Lanka’s potential. From
grassroots initiatives to global corporations, Lakshan’s journey exemplifies what it means to lead with heart, integrity, character and purpose. It’s a journey marked by compassion, resilience, and a deep commitment to empowering the next generation of Sri Lankan leaders.
Fittingly, this September marks the first anniversary of Solutions Ground Pvt Ltd., and as Lakshan reflects on the steps taken over the past year, he sees how every conversation, every moment, every challenge, and every success has built a foundation for a leadership movement that’s not just about titles but about meaningful, lasting impact.
“If someone had told me early on where this leadership journey would take me, I probably wouldn’t have believed it,” Lakshan reflects. “It’s been a story shaped by God, my personal faith, perseverance, and an unrelenting desire to serve with purpose.” At the heart of his success is a strong spiritual foundation. “From day one, I’ve known that every milestone I’ve reached is by the grace, favour, and mercy of God,” he shares. Alongside divine guidance, he credits the support of his parents, wife, sons, family, dear friends, and beloved grandmother for keeping him grounded and inspired.
Interestingly, Lakshan didn’t begin with a rigid career plan. His academic pursuits, spanning management, economics, psychology, HR, and international relations, reflected a broader mission: understanding people and systems, not just business mechanics. That mission took
a major turn in 2005 when Sarath Jayasinghe, then Country HR Director at Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka, offered compassionate support for his friend battling leukaemia. “That singular interaction catalysed a cascade of opportunities,” Lakshan says. It led him to Coca- Cola, where his career commenced in Learning and Development for Human Resources and
then flourished, eventually becoming Regional Director for Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability for Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, and Nepal.
Here, Lakshan learned to balance corporate strategy with community service, forging relationships with governments, media, regulators, and civil society. “Coca-Cola gave me a platform to integrate purpose with professional growth,” he explains. But even as his corporate stardom rose, a parallel journey was unfolding.
Lakshan’s belief in purpose-driven leadership found profound expression through Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka, where he went from a volunteer to Chairman/President of the National Board. “Providing thousands of families and generations with safe and affordable housing
showed me that leadership is measured not by titles, but by the lives you touch and the trust you build,” he says.
His decision to remain in Sri Lanka after his studies was driven by love, devotion and loyalty. “Giving back is not just an act of gratitude; it’s a responsibility,” he emphasizes. This spirit has underpinned his entire career, including his work at multinational corporations, policy- level engagements, and youth leadership initiatives.
Through Solutions Ground Pvt. Ltd., his international boutique consultancy specializing in leadership development, policy advocacy, strategic corporate sustainability, business transformation, and international growth solutions, Lakshan now shares these lessons with
others. The firm works with businesses, governments, and NGOs across India and South Asia on leadership development, culture transformation, and strategic growth. The mission? To build future-ready, values-driven leaders who can navigate today’s complexities with
purpose and empathy.
“I am passionate about developing youth aged 16-29, helping them manage time, grow capacity, and become solution-oriented leaders,” he says. “Sri Lanka is a land of opportunity for leaders who seize their moments, act like an owner, are adaptable, agile, and purpose- driven.”
Lakshan attributes much of his growth to a mindset rooted in embracing opportunities, even the uncomfortable ones. “Life rarely waits for you to be perfectly prepared,” he shares. “You have to say yes before you fully understand what you’re committing to.” That willingness to
learn quickly and deliver beyond expectations became his accelerator – the “say yes and learn later” attitude.
Equally important was cultivating a personal brand of trustworthiness, accountability, and being result-oriented. “Leadership is not just about skills, it’s about influence, reputation, and the relationships you nurture and sustain,” he says. Over time, this integrity drew mentors
and sponsors who championed him behind the scenes.
One of Lakshan’s guiding principles is the idea of “finishing well”, seeing every commitment through with care, diligence and being a great steward of the resources entrusted to you. “How you end a project or relationship is often more important than how you begin,” he notes. His leadership experience is as deep as it is broad. At Coca-Cola, he led sustainability, communications and public affairs across borders. As President of the American Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka, he advocated for bilateral trade and economic resilience. At AIESEC Sri Lanka, he is presently involved to make a difference for thousands of youth. His role at Habitat for Humanity reconnected him to the human side of
infrastructure: “It wasn’t just about homes. It was about providing dignity and hope.”
His work with regulatory bodies like the Board of Investment Sri Lanka, UN agencies such as UNICEF, and the ILO allowed him to influence youth-centred policy, sustainability, and livelihoods, bringing global frameworks into local action. In times of crisis, whether facing policy shifts or public scrutiny, he learned that empathy, proactive and transparent communication, calm clarity, and preparation are the hallmarks of effective leadership. “Leadership isn’t something I perform, it’s something I live,” Lakshan says. “Authentic leadership means showing up consistently, even when no one’s watching. You do not become a leader in a day but you must lead, daily”
Through his journey, Lakshan has experienced the power of three pillars – coaching, mentoring, and sponsorship. “Coaches unlock performance. Mentors offer their wisdom and direction. Sponsors create opportunities,” he explains. “Having all three shaped my career,
and now, I’m committed to doing the same for others.”
Solutions Ground integrates these pillars into its development programs. The team focuses on ESG, culture transformation, youth training, and even sustainability (Outsourced CSR support for corporates), all with one goal: nurturing leaders with empathy, agility, and
integrity. But it’s not just about operational training. “Our programs are carefully curated to build character, emotional intelligence, and resilience,” Lakshan shares. “Culture transformation isn’t a checkbox. It’s about creating workplaces where people feel they belong and can make a difference.”
Reflecting on the needs of Sri Lanka today, Lakshan believes the most vital leadership traits are empathy, trustworthiness, resilience, adaptability, solution-minded and integrity. “In our sensitive socio-political landscape, where development also means healing, leadership must begin with empathy. Active listening breaks barriers and inspires collaboration. Resilience helps us hold steady. Integrity ensures we leave behind stronger institutions.” This is the ethos behind every program at Solutions Ground. “We meet people where they are, listen,
and grow together,” he says. “We don’t just build skill, we build souls with character to lead.”
As Sri Lanka’s tourism, IT, logistics and construction sectors grow rapidly, Lakshan warns that the country must urgently prepare a new generation of future-ready leaders. “These industries won’t thrive without leaders who prioritize people and culture,” he cautions. And with Sri Lanka nearing its 100th year of independence, today’s 20-somethings must be prepared to lead in their 40s. “The preparation begins today,” he says.
While Lakshan’s journey is inspiring, he is refreshingly honest about its imperfections. “I haven’t always gotten it right. I’ve made mistakes. But leadership isn’t something you perfect overnight, it’s something you commit to every day,” he shares. In moments of doubt, his faith and authenticity keep him steady. “It’s these imperfect, real moments, the failures, the learning that shaped how I lead today. With grace, purpose, and faith.”
As Solutions Ground proudly celebrates its first anniversary this September, Lakshan sees this milestone not as an endpoint but as a powerful beginning. His story is a powerful reminder that the greatest legacy a leader can leave is not profits or accolades, but people. “The future belongs to leaders who lead with heart, influence, impact and a relentless drive to inspire and uplift others,” he says. At Solutions Ground, every conversation, program, and decision is driven by this belief: Invest in people, and you don’t just build companies, you build communities which builds nations. In a world that often celebrates noise over nuance, Lakshan’s quiet conviction reminds us what daring to lead truly means.
